Transitional arrangements apply for these circumstances and, for a period of six months from 4 March 2025, we will continue to pay benefits towards the cost of inpatient services at one of the Healthscope Group of Hospitals in accordance with your Frank health insurance policy in the same manner as we did prior to termination of our agreement with Healthscope, less any applicable excess.

Transitional arrangements apply for these circumstances and, for a period of six months from 4 March 2025, we will continue to pay benefits towards the cost of inpatient services at one of the Healthscope Group of Hospitals in accordance with your Frank health insurance policy in the same manner as we did prior to termination of our agreement with Healthscope, less any applicable excess.

Transitional arrangements apply for these circumstances and, for a period of three months from 4 March 2025, we will continue to pay benefits towards the cost of inpatient services at one of the Healthscope Group of Hospitals in accordance with your Frank health insurance policy in the same manner as we did prior to termination of our agreement with Healthscope, less any applicable excess.

If you or a person covered under your Frank health insurance policy are admitted to one of the Healthscope Group of Hospitals on or after 4 March 2025 and that admission was not pre-booked or connected to a course of treatment that started prior to 4 March 2025 or due to an emergency, in most cases we will no longer cover the same level of cost of the inpatient services for that admission on or after 4 March 2025 resulting in you paying higher out-of-pocket costs at one of these hospitals.

We recommend you contact us prior to admission in these instances for further information on what benefits will be payable under your health insurance policy and potential out-of-pocket costs.

Healthscope has made the decision to terminate its contract with Frank. To clarify recent developments, we’ve outlined some key facts below: 

• Frank is a not-for-profit health fund and, as a member of the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA), has held contracts with Healthscope for many years.
• In February 2024, Frank renewed our contract with Healthscope. This contract included annual funding increases.
• Recently, Healthscope made public announcements claiming AHSA funds, including Frank, were not covering their fair share of hospital costs.
• Healthscope subsequently informed Frank, and other AHSA funds, of their intent to charge an additional hospital facility fee to our members.
• Frank opposed the introduction of this hospital facility fee as it would have increased out-of-pocket costs for our members and was not permitted under our contract.
• Healthscope gave notice of termination of its contract with Frank.
• Frank believes the rates we pay Healthscope in our current contract are fair and reasonable.
• Frank understands the pressures that private hospitals are under and have sought to balance their needs while being conscious of the potential impact on health insurance premiums and our members during a cost-of-living crisis.

The Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA) represents a number of Registered Private Health Funds across Australia to negotiate contracts with private hospitals. They are a not-for profit organisation that exists to ensure represented insurers can offer the best value, high-quality health services possible, whenever and wherever patients need it. The AHSA is responsible for facilitating arrangements between hospitals, doctors and health service providers on behalf of its represented funds.
