What singles cheap health insurance plans have optical cover included?

We say ‘nay’ to eye health

Aussies really do value their sight, even though they seemingly don’t do enough to protect it. The majority of us say going blind is worse than having a heart attack or losing a limb, and 90% of us say that sight is our most valued sense. Despite that, almost a quarter of Australians haven’t had an eye test in the past two years, and almost 1 million have never had one. Of those, almost half say eye health is not a priority and 16% can’t afford to have our eyes tested. As a result, more than half of Australians are at a higher risk of losing their eye sight because of a family history of eye conditions, and almost 20% don’t even know their family eye history. When it comes to eye injuries, one in five are caused by sports, the highest percentage. So, you can start to see why having cheap extras optical for singles might be worthwhile, no matter what your age.

In fact, Australia’s Eye Health Report Card revealed the Gen Y’ers as having one of the worst eye health rankings, with the highest amount of them receiving a D and an E for their eye health, and the lowest numbers receiving and A or a B.

It should come as no surprise, then, that optical cover is our second-highest claimed extras treatment, with health funds shelling out more than $176 million in benefits in the 2016 September Quarter alone, on the back of more than 2.5 million services. Given the need and demand for cheap extras optical for singles, it should also come as no surprise that we have extras policies that can be real eye-openers.

What does Frank offer?

Cheap extras optical for singles plans are available on selected extras covers. Extras cover can provide benefits for health treatments and services outside of hospital, like dental, physio, chiro and alternative therapies, amongst others. The other type of private health insurance is hospital cover, which could be there for you when you are admitted to hospital, either for an accident or emergency or for elective surgery. Having a private hospital policy that covers you in a private hospital could allow you to have the doctor or surgeon of your choice, and help you avoid public hospital waiting lists by being treated in a private hospital. When it comes to optical cover under our hospital plans, to try to keep premiums low, we don’t cover elective laser eye surgery. We do, however, provide cover for cataract surgery, eye lens procedures and corneal transplants on selected hospital covers. Click here to find out more about our hospital covers and which one can provide the eye surgery cover you are looking for.

However, when it comes to cheap extras optical for singles, we know how important it can be, and that’s why both our main extras policies provide benefits for optical services. Lots Extras is our most comprehensive extras cover and can help you stay on top of your health. It provides head-to-toe coverage with big annual limits without the big price tag. Insurance that provides cheap extras optical cover for singles usually covers you for services such as prescription glasses, prescription contact lenses and prescription sunglasses. It won’t provide benefits for non-prescription sunnies or repairs or frames of non-prescription lenses. Both our extras covers offer benefits of 50% or 80%, which can give you even more flexibility, choice and affordable options when it comes to cheap extras optical for singles. That means that for every $100 you pay for your glasses or contact lenses, you could claim either $50 or $80 back, up to your annual limit. Annual limits are the maximum amount you can claim back on specific treatments or services in a calendar year.

For our Lots Extras cover, the annual limit for singles is $250. Our other extras cover is called Some Extras. Some Extras gives you some cover without going over the top and can provide benefits for treatments like dental, optical and the occasional alternative therapy. Because it has lower annual limits and covers less services, premiums are lower than Lots Extras, but it also provides benefits of 50% or 80%, also up to the annual limits. Because it is a different level of cover, Some Extras offers annual limits for cheap extras optical for singles of $120. Both covers have a 6 month waiting period for optical benefits, and health funds are not allowed to refuse you cover if you already have glasses or an eye condition. We also have a bundled health cover plan that includes benefits for Optical, the Essentials Bundle which is a nice mixture of extras and hospital insurance. This can provide you with the peace of mind of hospital cover and the knowledge to know if you need extras treatment, we are here to help your budget.

What about Medicare?

One of the great things about being Australian is having access to Medicare. You’ve probably grown up with it and really miss it whenever you go overseas. Well, the good news is Medicare can help you when it comes to your eye health. Medicare can cover you for eye tests performed by an optometrist, which is usually one of the first steps when it comes to making sure you eye health is up to scratch. There are plenty of optometrists around who bulk bill for this service, so make sure you find the best one for you. However, Medicare probably won’t cover you for glasses and contact lenses, that is where we come in. So, having cheap extras optical for singles can make going to the optometrist that little bit easier on your budget if you need new glasses or lenses. Like dental, cheap extras optical for singles can be a good way to get value from your health cover.

If you have glasses, you are likely to need them upgraded or changed at some point, so being able to claim benefits can be a real bonus, especially given how expensive prescription glasses and contact lenses can be. On top of this, there is also the Australian Government’s Private Health Insurance Rebate, which is designed to make it easier for you to take out extras cover, including cheap extras optical for singles. The rebate is tiered, and how much you get back depends on your age and income level, but check out the above link to find out more.
