What is the best family health and dental insurance plan for us?

Why is it important?

When you’re young and single, health insurance and dental cover isn’t really something you think about, not in a good way anyway. And that’s fair enough. You’ve got more important things to focus on. However, when you become a parent for the first time, it’s a whole new ball game. Not only do you start getting soppy at toilet paper commercials, but you start to look at everything through new eyes. Sure, you have a lot more to think about, but the health and welfare of your family quickly jumps high up your list.

How does Frank’s cheap health cover work?

We’re no different than most health funds, in that we offer both hospital and extras health cover. The difference with us is we make things simple and affordable. Our three hospital covers – Best, Better and Basic – allow you to choose cover across the entire price range. If you want all the bells and whistles, we have you covered. If you want just the basics, we have that, too. If one cover is cheaper than the other, it’s because it excludes more expensive treatments or services. It can still be good value for money and can still deliver the quality you are after.

When it comes to extras, we have two – Lots and Some. Once again, we have made it simple, and both offer your choice of either 80% or 50% back on your treatment costs (up to annual limits. The only real differences between services available between the two are Lots Extras offers cover for podiatry, psychology, antenatal and postnatal classes and travel vaccines and Some Extras doesn’t. All the other treatments and services on offer are the same, but annual limits will differ. Our two bundles – Starter and Essentials offer cover for a range of treatments with 60% back on your treatment costs (up to your annual limits). When it comes to all Frank’s cheap health insurance options, make sure you have a close look at how they work, what the differences are, especially the inclusions, exclusions or restrictions within the cover. This is a good place to start. Feel free contact us if you want to know more.

How does Frank’s cheap dental family cover work?

Cheap dental family cover is part of our extras insurance. Both extras policies and both bundles include general and major dental, which means that’s one less thing to worry about when picking between the policies. Major dental includes benefits for treatments like complicated fillings, extractions and root canals, and general dental includes treatments like check-ups, x-rays, fillings, cleanings and basic extractions. Frank’s cheap health insurance options don’t include dentures cover.

One big difference between our two cheap dental family covers is around annual limits. An annual limit is the maximum amount you are allowed to claim in any one year. Limits are set either per person, or per family. When it comes to overall dental, Lots will let you claim $2000 as a single or $4000 as a family or couple. Under our Some extras policy, you can claim up to $500 or $1000. When it comes to the benefit percentages, if you think you and your family will only need the odd cleaning or filling, then the 80% option might work best. If you think your family might be a regular visitor to the dentist, then choosing the 50% option might make it easier to spread your annual limits out across the year.

The annual limits are different again for our Essentials and Starter bundles. Make sure you check out all the details of all our extras policies before deciding on the best one for you and your family.

How do I know which one is the best?

Whether it’s cheap dental family cover you are after, or cheap health insurance in general, make sure you do your homework, but also think about your situation now and what it may be in the future. No doubt you will have an idea of how much you want to pay for health cover, but think about what you expect, or want, to get from your private health insurance. This may make your choice a little easier. When you are thinking about cheap dental family cover, it’s important to also cast your mind across to the other extras treatments. Even though they might not be used as much, they can still be a benefit to you and your family. Look at the waiting periods, the treatment specifics and the list of exclusions. If two dental covers are the same, the other extras treatments or services might be enough to tip you one way or another.

When it comes to cheap health insurance with your family in mind, there can be quite a big difference between hospital covers. Some can cover you as a private patient in a private hospital, possibly in a private room, and others can cover you as a private patient in a public hospital only. Some policies might only allow certain procedures in a public hospital for a certain amount of time after you sign up. To make things more affordable, some hospital or bundle policies may only cover you for a minimum amount of hospital services. This is what we mean by working out what you expect and what you need from your cheap health insurance. While you can change and upgrade any time you want, it’s much better to get these things sorted now, with waiting periods in mind, and so you have peace of mind in knowing it is there.
