What are extras?

Private health insurance works alongside Medicare to make treatments and services Medicare doesn’t usually cover more affordable. Without it, you would have to foot the whole bill yourself. There are two kinds of health insurance in Australia – hospital and extras.

Hospital insurance covers you when you are admitted to hospital and extras cover provides benefits for treatments you usually don’t have to go to hospital for, like alternative therapies, psychology, remedial massage and much more. Basically, extras cover lets you pay a regular premium and then claim a refund when you use the services. You can also combine extras and hospital cover if you want. You can also bundle the two together, to put all your cheap health insurance needs under one policy.

The higher your level of cover, the more your benefits will generally be. You may not need everything that is on offer when it comes to cheap extras family cover, but you can mix and match to get the best value you can.

What are Frank’s extras options?

Frank believes cheap health insurance doesn’t mean you have to compromise quality, and when it comes to cheap extras family cover we have tried to make things simple. There is nothing worse when you have a young family than spending an unnecessarily large amount of time trying to get your ahead around the intricacies of private health insurance

We have two extras cheap health insurance options – Lots Extras and Some Extras. Both cheap health insurance policies have heaps of extras treatments and services that will be benefit families. As well as those mentioned above, extras cover can provide benefits for antenatal and postnatal classes, which can be really important, especially if you are having a baby for the first time. Treatments like dental and podiatry are always popular with families. There are two types of dental cover – major and general. Major is all the yucky stuff like root canals and major extractions, and general dental under our cheap extras family cover provides benefits for treatments like fillings, check-ups, cleanings and fluoride treatments. Given the cost of prescription glasses, optical is another popular treatment when it comes to cheap extras family cover.

There are only a handful of differences between treatments covered under our Lots Extras and Some Extras insurances. The main differences are Lots Extras includes benefits for you and your family for podiatry, psychology, antenatal and postnatal classes and travel vaccines. All the other treatments are the same. Lots Extras gives you higher annual limits than Some Extras. Our two bundles – Starter and Essentials have a range of treatment types, but with 60% back on services (up to your annual limits). This gives you even more flexibility when it comes to finding the best cheap health insurance for you and your budget.

How much will I get back?

Our two cheap health insurance extras options also have two separate benefit options each. We reckon that helps you keep things simple but also helps keep things affordable and flexible. Frank’s extras work on a percentage system. You can choose to claim either 80% or 50% back with our cheap extras family cover, or 60% back with our hospital and extras bundles.

For example, if you have 80% cover and a dentist charges you $100 for a filling, you can claim $80 back, on the spot with Lots 80%, or $50 with Lots 50%. It really is that simple.

Most extras treatments also have annual limits and sub limits, which is a cap on the amount you can claim each year for specific services and treatments, either per person or per couple or family. The cap limits are usually the same for the same policies, no matter what percentage you choose. We do that to give you even more options.
