Frank is here to help. We want to make it as easy as we can to give your kids and your family a cheap health insurance plan that will be there when they need it, and will help you with the regular treatments that can keep them healthy. The good news is cheap health insurance doesn’t mean compromised health insurance.

Frank’s policies for both hospital and extras cover for dependant children and their families are flexible and simple, and range across all levels. The other good news is you can mix and match them. Children grow and change as they get older, so it’s silly to think their health needs won’t change too. Keep an eye on your cheap health insurance policy as time goes on, to make sure it is still doing what you want it to do. If you have to change, or upgrade, no sweat. You might want to change your cover as your kids grow up. Orthotics, Dietetics and Speech Therapy might be services that you need to get them through their growing pains. If you switch across from another health fund, that’s also really easy. So, don’t be scared off by all the options around cover for dependant children and families. The fact there are so many around is a good thing. As we said before, we know you want the best and we can help take the stress out of finding it.

How does cover for dependant children work?

If you have never had health insurance before, having children is as good as time as any to get it. Your kids might not be the only people in the house to benefit. At Frank, we know kids are special and we want you to take care of them as best you can. So, we will add them to any family policy at no additional charge. What that means is if you already have or plan on taking out couples insurance, adding children to your policy won’t cost you anything. If you are getting cheap health insurance for the first time, the premiums you will pay for couple or family insurance will be exactly the same. It’s probably the only time your kids won’t cost you anything! All you have to do is add them to your policy. If you are planning to have a baby, then check your current policy is up to scratch. If you have basic cover, you will probably need to look at it closely and work out whether it has the benefits a higher level of cover can give new parents. If you have a cover you are happy with, all you have to do is add the baby to it when they are born. We’ll waive any waiting periods, because new parents should only have to stress about a lack of sleep, dirty nappies and visits from in-laws.

When it comes to older children, most health funds have a pretty strict definition when it comes to cover for dependant children. As a general rule, a child is an unmarried person under 18.

At Frank, insured dependant students are covered under the family’s policy until they turn 25. After that, they have two months to organise health insurance and won’t have to start waiting periods or benefit limitation periods again. Click here if you want to know more about this.

Which cover is best?

Most health funds offer both hospital and extras care and both can be important if you are looking for cover for dependant children. You are unlikely to use hospital cover regularly, but it can be good to know it is there. Having a safety net can be a big deal. Having cheap hospital insurance could provide you and your family benefits for some of the costs of admissions to hospital. It can also help cover the costs of any elective surgery and give you a choice to choose your own doctor. With one of the great health systems in the world, it can be easy to think hospital cover might be worth skipping. However, having hospital cover for dependant children, and for you, can help take a little bit of stress out of having a sick child and help them rebound.

While Medicare is great, it doesn’t cover you for most of the things Frank’s extras care provides benefits for. Extras cover is more for your family’s everyday health needs, treatment that won’t usually see you admitted to hospital for, like physio, dental and chiro. Dental cover for dependant children can be a really good idea, especially as they grow up. Regular examinations, cleanings, fillings and extractions are all part of growing up, and we have your back to make it happen. All our covers are simple to understand and give you options for whatever level you like. After all, we believe in protecting you and your children and we know how important it is to make it as easy as possible.
