When it comes to family and health, most people don’t want to compromise. At Frank we understand you want to protect your family as best you can, but want to get value for money at the same time. The good news is, we reckon you can do both, and we have made it our mission to make that happen.

Work out what you want and need

Family life is busy at the best of times. Mostly, it’s flat out. We understand you don’t want to spend too much time stressing about which cheap health insurance policy suits you and your family, or which extras you should leave out. We know you don’t love health insurance, but by doing this we reckon at least you won’t hate it.

We have simple products which can make it easier to choose and to see how things work. Health insurance usually comes in two types – hospital and extras. Hospital care can cover you for admissions to hospital, including for things like having tonsils removed (and the jelly that comes with afterwards), as well as the obvious things like accidents, joint surgery and rehabilitation.

Cheap health insurance extras cover includes health treatments or services you usually get outside a hospital, like dental, optical, and podiatry; all services a growing family could need. At Frank, we want to try to meet the needs of you and your family from today and into tomorrow, so make sure you think about all the treatments you might need now and into the future a little bit. You can upgrade whenever you want, but getting it right now is the best place to start.

Read below to get a better understanding of Frank’s hospital and extras covers and work out what you think you will need. Are you planning to have a baby? Does anyone in your family wear glasses? Does anyone play sport? Do you have a family history of dodgy knees? Cheap family health insurance can cover you for all these things and more, but when you speak with us, we’ll need your help with all that stuff to get the best for you.

Hospital cover

At Frank, our hospital covers are based around simple options. How much you pay for your hospital cover is usually based on your level of cover and whether you want to go to a private or public hospital. The differences are always in the details, which is why it’s important to work out what you want and what you are willing to pay for it.

Hospital cover can be an important part of having the best cheap family health insurance plan. On top of the accident and emergency coverage, it can also help you get around public hospital waiting lists for elective surgery. You can also choose the doctor you want. Our Best Hospital cover is, well, our best. It includes cover for things like accidents and pregnancy (including IVF), as well as everything from eye surgery to joint investigation and restructure. If the pitter patter of little feet isn’t in your plans, you can exclude pregnancy and still get all the good things Best Hospital offers.

Tap the Best Hospital link to see them all. Our Better Hospital cover is cheaper and doesn’t cover you for as much, but still includes a lot of common reasons for going to hospital, like accidents, heart surgery and rehab. We have two Basic Hospital covers to give you even more options. Basic Hospital (Some Private) can cover you for some treatments in a public hospital and some in a private hospital. This can be a great cheap health insurance option for families. It covers you for things like accidents and pregnancy in a public hospital, and for things like ear grommets and tonsil and adenoid removal in a private hospital.

The final hospital option is Basic Hospital, which is private health cover in a public hospital. You will still be covered for things like accidents, pregnancy and rehab. If you’re looking for a cheap cover and aren’t hung up on all the bells and whistles, this one might be good for you. With all the cheap health insurance hospital covers, you need to be aware there may be medical gaps to consider, and there are some treatments you might have to wait a little while to claim, from the time you sign up.

The good news is, if you come to us from another health fund, we might be able to include time already waited on your new cover, if it’s comparable. Some treatments in hospital, such as weight-loss surgery, will attract what’s called a benefit limitation period. This means there is a while, usually about two years, that we will cover you for the treatment only in a public hospital. But ask us about all this before you sign up.

Like our hospital covers, our extras cheap health insurance plans are simple, to make it easier for you to get back to all that family stuff. In a nutshell, we have two extras plans, Some and Lots.

You can choose benefits of either 50% per cent or 80%, the more you get back, the more it will cost you in premiums, which makes sense. The main difference between the two covers is that some don’t include podiatry, psychology, travel vaccinations or antenatal or post-natal classes. There are clear decisions to make there if you are looking for cheap family health insurance. Cleary, extras like dental and orthodontics can be handy if you have children, especially when you can claim benefits for thinks like fillings, which are pretty common and can be expensive, and even regular check-ups and cleaning. Getting on top of dental dramas before they get too bad is good news for everyone.

Both hospital and extras cover can be bundled together to give you a pre-packaged deal that can cover you for both. Our Essentials Bundle offers you all the private cool stuff and some exclusions to keep costs down, all with 60% back on the extras it covers. Our Starter Bundle is perfect if you are after cheap cover in case you’re in an accident, still with 60% back on popular extras. Neither of those include pregnancy cover if you buy them off the shelf, so contact us to find out how you can work around it.
