What benefits should singles look when taking out cheap dental insurance?

How does it all work?

Let’s start at the start and give you the lowdown on how health insurance works. We know it’s not something many people think a lot about, especially young people and especially young single people. Working through the intricacies of health cover for singles is not your usual Saturday night activity. In fact, it’s probably not a Tuesday night activity either. But if you do spend a little time finding out about cheap dental cover for singles, and other bits of health cover, you might be surprised to find out what benefits are available, and how they can benefit you. So, there are two types of health cover – hospital and extras.

Hospital insurance could cover you for when you are admitted to a private hospital, or a public hospital as a private patient. It could cover you for the costs of the hospital itself, such as accommodation and food, as well as medical costs, such as the cost of a doctor and any medication used during the procedure. Choosing the private hospital option could allow you to avoid the public hospital waiting lists and also choose your doctor or specialist. Extras cover provides benefits for the treatments and services you receive outside of hospital, such as optical, physio and chiro. Cheap dental cover for singles also fits in under extras cover. Most extras treatments, including dental, are not covered by Medicare, meaning without health cover, you will probably have to pay full price.

What are the benefits?

Finding out as much as you can about cheap dental cover for singles means first understanding how dental cover works. There are two kinds of dental cover – major and general. Major dental cover can provide benefits for the more serious and complicated treatments such as crowns, bridges and some difficult extractions. General dental as part of cheap dental cover for singles can provide benefits for more common dental treatments and services such as fillings, check-ups and cleanings. There can be heaps of benefits of both general and major dental cover. An obvious big benefit of having major dental as part of your cheap dental cover for singles is the money you can claim back from treatments. Major dental procedures can cost a lot of money.

So being able to claim benefits on your visits can assist with managing your health budget. That is, of course, assuming your cover is up to date, you have served your waiting period and you haven’t reached your annual limits. More about that kind of stuff below. There can’t be too many things worse than having a painful condition that requires major dental treatment and not having the money in your budget to pay full price for it. This is what you’ll face if you don’t have cheap dental cover for singles.

When it comes to general dental cover, the benefits can help you with your budget as well as your health. Since you were in primary school, you were told to visit a dentist at least twice a year.  Those who should know should still be telling you to do that. So being able to claim benefits back for something like check-ups, which you should be having anyway, is a good way to get extra value from your cheap dental cover for singles. General dental can also provide benefits for other kinds of preventative services such as fluoride treatments or cleanings. These treatments, as well as things like check-ups, can lower your risk of developing tooth decay. Regular visits for preventative treatments can also help dentists pick up any problems early, before they become bigger, and more expensive.

What are my cover options?

Another one of the benefits of having cheap dental cover for singles with us is we believe health cover should be affordable, simple and flexible. Sure, you’ve probably heard that from a heap of health funds, but our proof is in our policies. We have two main extras policies – Lots Extras and Some Extras. We know how important having cheap dental cover for singles as part of your health plan is, and we back it up by including benefits for both general and major dental treatments in both our main extras plans.

That means you can claim benefits for the more common procedures, and have peace of mind of knowing if you need a major procedure, you could be covered. That shows how serious we are about making sure dental care can be affordable for you. One way we make cheap dental cover for singles flexible is by offering two different levels of benefits with our extras plans. Both Lots Extras and Some Extras have benefit options of 50% or 80% back on your treatments.  Choosing which one is right for you can come down to your budget, and how you think you will use your cover. The 50% back options usually come with lower premiums, which may be a big factor in which cover you choose. However, if you choose the 80% option, you can claim more back per visit, up to the annual limits. Annual limits are a cap on how much you can claim for certain treatments in a calendar year.

The limits are the same within both Lots Extras and Some Extras, which means if you think you will visit the dentist regularly, the 50% benefit option might be the best one for you. You will get less back per treatment, but you’ll be able to spread your annual limits for cheap dental cover for singles out further across the year. You need to also take into account waiting periods, which for general dental are 2 months, and for major dental are 12 months.
