Cheap dental health coverage

Getting Cheap Dental Cover with your Family Health Insurance

The cost of dental for families in Australia is no joke. Going in for general dental work like examinations, cleanings and small fillings can easily cost you a few hundred dollars per visit. Major dental procedures such as wisdom tooth removals, crowns, dentures, root canals and braces are even more expensive and can easily cost thousands of dollars depending on which dental clinic you talk to.

Unlike many medical procedures done at a public hospital, Medicare won’t cover dental procedures, except in very rare cases where special medical procedures are required. If you have a family to look after and wish to ensure that all their dental needs are taken care of on a regular basis, the costs can be quite significant.

Your only real alternative to offset these high dental fees – aside from putting a huge dent in your bank account or using your credit card every few months, is to get cheap health insurance for your family and choosing the right extras cover for your needs.

How to Pick the Right Dental Insurance

If you want to get the best cheap dental insurance for your family, you have to shop around for the right extras cover (also known as ancillary cover). Similar to choosing the right hospital cover, you don’t want to be paying high premiums for extras services and treatments that either you or your dependents won’t be getting much use out of.

What is Included with Extras Insurance?

Extras Cover from Frank Health Insurance comes in two varieties – Some and Lots Extras.

Some Extras covers some of the most common ancillary treatments such as dental, optical, chiropractic, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, osteopathy, naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture and remedial massage.

Lots Extras adds even more services to the already extensive list above to include podiatry, psychology, travel vaccinations and antenatal/postnatal classes.

Franks also includes ambulance cover for all its extras policies.

Whenever you get extras cover you have complete freedom to choose which dental clinic or health professional you get treatment from. So instead of limiting yourself to the most affordable options in your area, you can pick whoever you and your loved ones are most comfortable with our cheap health insurance. Dental cover for families will give you the peace of mind you deserve and stop you putting off going to the dentist.

Annual Limits on Claims

An important difference between Frank’s Some Extras and Lots Extras insurance policies is the amount of money you can expect to get back in claims or payout benefits every year.

With Some Extras you can only claim a maximum of $500 per person and $1,000 per policy, annually. If your family’s annual dental costs per year exceed the maximum allowable limit, you’ll have to pay the rest out of your own pocket.

While you may not need the additional services included in Frank’s Lots Extras policy, it does provide a higher annual limit for dental services amounting to $2,000 per person and $4,000 per policy. Dental cover for families is an important addition to your extras policy and will cover you and your loved ones.

So if you or any of your loved ones need to get a lot of dental work done on a more frequent basis, you may be better off paying higher premiums for Lots Extras, which provides a bigger allowance for any eventuality. At Frank Health Insurance we offer cheap health insurance which will give you the peace of mind you deserve.

How Much Do You Want to Get Back on your Dental insurance policy?

Whether you go with Some Extras or Lots Extras, you can also choose how much of your dental fees and other extras services Frank has to pay for.

Frank can either split the bill straight down the middle at 50%, or cover a bigger chunk of your treatments at 80%. Some Extras with 50% benefit may have the lowest premiums, but you’ll have to pay more out of pocket every time you visit the dentist.

Choose the 80% benefit if you don’t want to worry about incidental costs anytime you or any of your dependents visits the dentist – so long as you don’t exceed your policy’s annual limit for dental by too big of an amount.

Waiting Periods

Similar to signing up for hospital cover, extras cover also requires that you wait before you can start filing claims for your treatments.

Waiting periods for both, Some Extras and Lots Extras, are the same for the covered services they have in common.

You only have to deal with waiting periods if it’s your first time signing up for private health insurance or if you are upgrading your cover. If you’re upgrading your cover you will only serve waiting periods on the services you weren’t previously covered for. Once the waiting periods have been served, you’re free to seek treatment any time you wish. Waiting periods for cheap health insurance claims are different from waiting lists at public hospitals, where you have to get in line every time you need professional medical help.

Other Things to Remember

Not all extras policies are the same, so it’s important to read the fine print and shop around to know exactly what you’re getting for your money. Some health insurers allow you to sign up for just extras cover, while others may only offer extras bundled with hospital cover. With Frank you get a lot more options so that you can tailor your extras cover to fit your exact needs. As well as make sure the dental cover for family’s component has you and your family covered.

If you’re looking to avoid paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge, you will still have to sign up for hospital cover since Medicare doesn’t include ancillary treatments covered by extras such as dental insurance.

Most important of all, you should always try to forecast your actual annual costs for dental and other ancillary treatments and compare it to your premiums to properly figure out if you’re actually getting your money’s worth – or if you’re just paying more than what is necessary for that extra bit of peace of mind.
